Earthquakes And Volcanoes         Throughout the course of learning about the natural hazards that occurs in my country that I have chosen to discuss about, there are two that I believe to due the most harm to human life. Those two hazards are earthquakes and volcanic activity, there are many active known  volcanoes in Italy; the country is located between two fault lines and the two tectonic plates. When they push and pull it causes many earthquakes that have killed many people and destroyed many cities and buildings. Italy has more than 30000 earthquakes in their history, which make this a priority.  The volcanoes are located in many of the Italian cities, which...

What I learned

I have learned a lot through the course of the semester, I know how many countries including our own prepares for natural disasters. Every country has there own hazards that occurs in their own country, that range from floods to volcanic eruptions. I know how earthquakes occur, and the different boundaries like, Divergent, Convergent, Transform. There are many plates involved when it come to Convergent boundaries such as ocean-ocean, ocean- continent, and continent-continent, they all have their own dynamics and end result. This natural hazard occur often and cause a lot of damage to property and loos of human life when an earthquake hits high on the Richter scale. Every country has their way of educating their citizens on how to get through earthquakes and the events that happen afterwards. Thing that can occur after are tsunamis or when the seafloor sits on top of the Earth's crust and shifts up or down during a earthquake. These ...

Italy's coastal Line

There has been many problems with the sea level raising and has effected all the countries. This includes Italy which has not only a raising sea level to worry about erosion. It effects about 42% of Italy's beaches, this happens because of dam that are being built in the rivers and therefore not allowing a supply of sediment to the coast. There has been a lot of contributing factors as well, like harbors and tourist. The harbors help a little in the coastal area but increase erosion in the lower drift sectors. What Italy has done to stop or combat erosion is beach nourishment. This has been effective way of help the coast of all of Italy. Also by stopping a lot of construction that will restrict the flow of sediment to the coast. Italy's beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world and should try and keep them that way. There is nothing we can do about natural disasters that occur like movement of isostatic and tectonic plates or ...

Italy: weather

Italy has many natural disasters that occurs, ranging from sinkholes to tsunamis. So how is the weather  like, and is there a system or website that you can go and check, if there is going to be extreme weather. Italy has many alert systems for different types of disasters, but they have a website for all of Europe to check for extreme weather in there country and city that they live in. They can also watch the news for any alerts of serious storms, so they can leave the area and get to safety. The weather in Rome, Italy throughout the year ranges from 37°F to 89°F. Does not reach above 95°F nor does it fall below 28°F. The winters, like most other countries are cloudy, wet, and cold. The summers are hot, dry, and clear. The weather conditions are ideal for wheat, wines, and other corps that are used to make their delicious foods.Even though there are normal conditions, there are extreme conditions that can be very deadly. Th...

Italy: Mass wasting

Image
Mass wasting usually happens when their are floods or large amount of rainfalls. Then the pressure of the water loosens the dirt and then causes a mud slide carrying other debris and materials along with it. It can cause loss to human life  to unsuspected citizens as well as property damage. In Italy in a town called La Spezia a land slide happened and it cause a truck to be pushed of the road and rolled down the hill. It was due to a large amount of rain about 400mm of rainfall and loosened the dirt causing this event. This can happen in a split second and if you do not listen to the news for information it can be very deadly. Being very cautious when it is rainy and being aware of what is being said about the weather and help save lives and hopefully help this from being more dangerous than it already is. volcanic activity: Italy

Italy is the only country in mainland Europe to be volcanically active. It has many volcanos in the country, it has 13, such as Mount Etna, Vesuvius, and Vulture  to name a few. They are located south of the boundaries of the Eurasian and African plates. A super volcano known as Campi Flegrei is been  inactive for 500 years but has now been put on scientific monitoring because the temperature has been increasing and signs of gas breaking. It is located southwest of Naples. This volcano is begin monitored unlike the one in Pompeii when it erupted in 79 A.D. by Mount Vesuvius. It killed thousand of people and covered them with hot ash which in cased them in it. It has become a very popular spot to check out in Italy. The way to be safe if a volcano does erupt in Italy is to move away from the area and if the volcano to be monitored so if it does erupt, the people can leave the area. Italy has three zones for volcanoes red, yellow, and blue. The...

Earthquakes: Italy

Earthquakes are the most common natural hazards around the world, they can be very deadly not only to buildings and roads, but to human lives. Earthquakes are measured by the Richter scale which was invent back in the 1930's. It measures the amplitude of the seismic waves to an arbitrary minor amplitude, which shows in a standard distances on a standardized seismograph. Italy which has been around for 2500 years has had 30000 medium and high intensity earthquakes. That falls in the range of IV/V in the Mercalli scale, which is used to measure the effect of the earthquake. 560 high intensity earthquake over VIII; this helps them to know what areas are the highest prone for earthquakes. The have help ready for after a earthquake hits if it is high. They recommend hiding under a beam or low-bearing wall. They want people to stay inside if they can this is all during an earthquake.
